DSVC 101 is a growing network of students, educators and professionals who come together to share their knowledge and love of design. The DSVC 101 committee plans College Club events, coordinates the Student Board and the School of the Month program, and works with select local high schools to promote industry awareness.

Here it is in a large nutshell.

Art Prostitute was founded in 2003 by Brian Gibb and Mark Searcy. Since its inception the project has published 8 issues and will transition into a hardcover book in the fall of 2008. The publication has won numerous design awards and been highly acclaimed by publications across the US and abroad.

The gallery opened in the summer of 04 and now bears the name The Public Trust. The gallery primarily focuses on exhibiting drawings and paintings from artists such as Evan Hecox, Eva Fan, Steven Hopwood Lewis, Dalek, Dave Kinsey, Gary Baseman and many others. The Public Trust is one of the founding member galleries of the Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas.

In addition to the gallery and publishing, Gibb is constantly working on freelance design and art direction for a broad range of clients as well as his own personal work which consists mostly of works on paper, prints and large scale installations.
Join our tour on March 20th for a 101 experience. We will meet between 5:30 and 6:00 pm for a quick tour of the Gallery followed by a presentation by Brian Gibb.

Please RSVP to Arma Shahidi: armaart@gmail.com

STUDENT BOARD
Elected by their professors, this group of student leaders serve as advisors to the DSVC Board of Directors to ensure that the DSVC stays in tune with the needs of the college community. Student Board members also keep their fellow students informed about DSVC events and volunteer opportunities. The following schools are represented for the 2006-2007 DSVC season: UT Arlington, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas Woman’s University, Southern Methodist University, University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, Art Institute of Dallas, and Westwood College.

SCHOOL OF THE MONTH
Each month, the DSVC extends a special invitation to one college design program. Students and educators from the School of the Month are admitted to the DSVC Speaker Meeting free of charge. Our goal is to expose students and faculty to the benefits of joining the DSVC, and to recognize the outstanding pool of talented students in our market.

HIGH SCHOOLS
The DSVC is developing partnerships with several local high schools. Throughout the year, members of the DSVC community will visit these campuses to offer students a unique look into the field visual communications. In addition, DSVC 101 also arranges “shadow days” at local businesses and college campus tours for high schoolers.

COLLEGE CLUB
College design programs teach theory and fundamentals but often fail to equip students with practical information such as how to prepare a portfolio or ace an interview. Students also need information about selecting paper and printing a job. College students prepare for professional life through the DSVC College Club. The College Club is a new DSVC group that includes college students from all local visual communications programs. The group's meetings give students the chance to network with each other and with the DSVC professional community. By offering programs in these areas, College Club helps students round out their design education. College Club members also connect on the College Club forum.
