Is anybody going to hear Steve? I had never heard of him before but recognized some of his work. I generally don't like hearing illustrators for some reason but will likely be at this one.

I'm there!

I heard he did 3D modeling in Halo, so I know he's darn good... I think thats his passion, 3D gaming.

Should be a whappah of a meetin! :)

My favorite quote of the night...

When Steve was asked "Do you play the games you work on?" He replied "No, I have better things to do with my time".

I loved the honesty and it reminded me of a question I often ponder...do you need to be an avid reader to be a great writer? Do you need to know David Carson from Paul Rand to be a great designer? Do you have to have an awesome cd collection to be a great musician?

"No, I have better things to do with my time"

That comment angered me because I dream about working on games like Halo 3.

Steve is a talented 3D designer but his job at Bungie should go to someone with passion for the Halo series with equal talent. Steve could land any project he wanted at this point in his career.

Passion for Halo

I hear yah Matt... and as a fairly well versed player of Halo 2, I can understand where your coming from.

However, tho a person might have wonderful talents/skills in visualization and execution, this does NOT EQUATE to fast hand eye coordination... as pretty much required by games like Halo.

I can't tell you how many times I've had my a** frag'd by a 7 year old. Altho I can out draw that 7 year old any old day.

Don't let that anger you... the many many talents inside Bungie, I'm sure most of them could be eliminated by a "true" player, not a creator. There is a difference, and thats probably a good thing!

:)
