Mack Vaughn, former chair of the University of North Texas Art Department and professor of Advertising Art (Communication Design) from 1965 to1984, passed away on Wednesday, June 18. He is survived by his wife, Marge, and his daughter, Evelyn.

During his 20-year tenure with UNT, Mack was responsible for teaching advertising and design to a large number of the men and women who have helped to put Dallas on the map as a regional design center. Rex Peteet,Chris Rovillo, Brian Boyd, Margie Bowles, Carol St. George, James Bell, and Todd Hart are just a few of the members of our tribe who were inspired to pursue a career in visual communication thanks to the tutelage of Mack Vaughn.

Mack was a good and constant friend to the University of North Texas and the Dallas advertising and design community. He will be sorely missed, but his legacy lives on.

A viewing is planned for Friday with services on Saturday. Contact the UNT College of Visual Arts and Design for more funeral information (940.565.4001).

Condolences to Mack's family

Please accept my heartfelt sympathies to the family of Dr. Mack Vaughn. I attended NTSU from 1968-71 and he was my professor for many classes. He will be remember always by his grateful students for his caring and sometimes tough critiques which made us all better artist and designers. There is probably no more noble legacy than the great teacher who taught so many so well. Thank you Dr. Mack for all your inspirational and educational values that you endowed to me and many others.
Respectfully,
Thomas (Tommy) Soloski
