Job Description

The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating visual solutions for use in print, web, video and social media. He/she should be able to think creatively and critically about the visual communication of assigned projects using design principals, photography, illustrative, and typographic theory. The Graphic Designer creates visual artwork, by hand or using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate the audience. The Graphic Designer must be capable of working within a group, as well as alone in a fast paced, high volume environment. The Graphic Designer is responsible for Art Directing artwork and creative concepts. Above all, he/she must relish in the fact that the work produced is used to promote the ministry of Jesus Christ and minister to the people of Gateway Church.

Job Responsibilities

Managing and stewarding the brand of Gateway and the ministries within the organization.

Interpret ministry’s needs and think creatively to suggest ideas and concepts/designs to suit their purpose.

Design a wide range of print, web and video related visual solutions including, but not limited to:

  • Print collateral
  • Logo and identity solutions
  • Creative Campaigns
  • Internal and external advertising pieces
  • Graphics for web and mobile application
  • Graphics for video application

Complete projects on time and in the most efficient manner possible while maintaining a high level of quality.

  • Proofread and have a critical eye on designs to produce accurate and high-quality work.
  • Keep up with new technologies and software updates.

Demonstrate illustrative skills with rough sketches and present ideas and concepts both visually and verbally to the team.

Acquire information needed for the projects in queue and keep the team up to date on project status.

  • Estimate time required to complete work and provide feedback for scheduling.
  • Coordinate with the Print Manager to acquire print quotes and printing specs required to accurately build and complete projects in your responsibility.

Art directing and overseeing the artistic execution of design projects, photoshoots, production, etc.

Knowledgeable in writing print specs (specifically for papers, inks, folds, dies, binding, self-mailing, etc.) and knowing printing terms within the industry.

Prepare and package files for printers.

Leading and organizing creative workshops and critiques.

Uphold a high level of professionalism and represent the Design Team in creative meetings and throughout day-to-day activities.

d) Preferred Education/Certification(s)

  • Bachelors in Design /Visual Communication or equivalent work experience.

  • Be experienced and comfortable in a Mac environment.
  • Be proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud Software (Specifically, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
  • Be experienced with Microsoft Office.
  • Display good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be flexible and thrive in a fast-paced environment with short turn-around times.

Technical Competencies:

  • Understand and love the printing process.
  • Pre-press knowledge required
  • Work with and manipulate a wide range of media including photography, typography, layout and illustration.
  • Understand and utilize typographical standards.
  • Knowledge in design for video, web and social media.
