Web Project Manager and Owner's Assistant
September 23rd, 2018

Job Description

Our owner and lead developer need to be free to concentrate on things that require their unique gifts. But currently, they are handling many tasks that could and should be handled by someone else. We need someone to handle those tasks and will consider full or part-time relationships. Salary will depend upon skill/abilities and will increase as those grow. Some of the work could be done from home.

Two things up front

  1. We care more about who you are and your work ethic than what you know.
  2. We can teach you what you don’t know about the specifics of our business.

What we do

We build custom websites and web applications. We generally don’t handle simple brochure sites. Rather, our sites are more complex and require research and custom-built functionality. Our projects are seldom one and done as virtually all of our clients engage us for multiple projects over time.

An example of our work is the website for The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago (www.msichicago.org). It is a mixture of a deep content with custom applications and integrations.

What you might do here

We say "might" because we do not expect that one person can ever do all of these things well. We need a person who can do some of them now and learn others on the job. We expect the person and the position to grow and mature over time. Some of those tasks are:

  • Manage projects.
  • Coordinate developers, designers, and other digital professionals.
  • Assist in project discovery workshops and research.
  • Manage client relationships.
  • Take support requests and create customer support tickets.
  • Test websites and software.
  • Assist in creating proposals.
  • Prepare invoices.
  • Write web and social media content.

Job Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Solid writing, editing, proofreading skills.
  • Excellent typing and computer skills.
  • Good at problem-solving: defining, analyzing, developing solutions.
  • Comfortable in a technical environment.

Not required, but things that will catch our eye

  • Project management experience.
  • Experience working in creative fields: design, advertising, software development, etc.
  • Account management or customer service experience.

Personal Qualities

You must:

  • be organized.
  • have a sharp mind, be curious, and quick to pick up new skills.
  • be self-motivated and able to function without much hand-holding.
  • have an eye for detail.
  • be genuinely interested in people and like interacting with them.
