Job Description

Dodd Creative Group is seeking a uniquely talented person to help lead our growing design department. In this role, you will wear many hats: (1) department manager, (2) art director, (3) teacher and mentor, (4) creative strategist, (5) general problem solver, and (6) fedora. We’re looking for a talented (but humble) rock star who is ready for a leadership opportunity and eager to form a long-term relationship with a fantastic team. Depending on experience, the right candidate could start as an Associate Creative Director or Creative Director. 

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide personnel management for several designers reporting directly to you
  • Help assign, traffic, and keep jobs on track, on budget, and on target
  • Provide art direction for work produced by in-house and by freelance designers, to continually improve the creative, strategic, and technical quality of their work
  • Facilitate communications between your design team and the account team
  • Help develop budgets, timelines, and work plans
  • Develop creative brief presentations (research, write, and gather style reference)
  • Present work to clients
  • Proof-read text and QC production files

Job Qualifications

To fill this role, you must demonstrate the following:

  • You are a talented designer with mastery of all phases of the project: concept, design, and production
  • You are a solid copywriter
  • You are an expert at building production-ready art for commercial printing; you are a master at InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • You’re a big-picture strategic thinker BUT ALSO have a fine-tuned attention to detail
  • You have outstanding presentation and communication skills
  • You are a wicked-fast learner with a boundless curiosity and energy
  • You are a multitasking wizard with solid time management and organizational skills
  • You are a teacher, mentor, and servant-leader
  • You have a can-do/will-do attitude; no task is too big… or too small


  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field
  • Minimum 8 years professional experience in graphic design and/or art direction, with a special focus in logo design and print media design
  • Significant experience critiquing and directing the work of designers, photographers, and other creative professionals
  • Solid drawing skills, for quickly communicating ideas and direction


  • Experience with web/digital media, sign design, and environmental design
  • Familiarity with interpreting architectural drawings
  • Experience working in the real estate sector (particularly multifamily housing)
  • Experience working with sign manufacturing and/or construction trades
  • A working knowledge of architectural styles, art history, and design theory
