That is if you are a Designer/Art Director with 3+ years of professional experience, who has great conceptual skills, the ability to self-manage, a decent sense of humor, the ability to handle a wide range of non-profit clients, and the drive to solve design problems in multiple strategic and tasteful ways.

Strong conceptual skills, a background in digital design, and proven experience in print will all help ensure the Designer II can succeed at Pursuant. Our work crosses healthcare, foundations, faith, and humanitarian efforts include a variety of media: print, direct mail, digital, web, and often video.

Specific experience in fundraising / direct marketing will be especially useful in developing the kind of work that exceeds our clients’ needs and adheres to fundraising best practices.

Job Responsibilities

  • Developing and producing original ideas and creative concepts for direct marketing campaigns, with responsibility for the overall visual aspects of client assignments in digital and print media
  • Working closely with a copywriting partner, as well as collaborating with other team members including creative director, designers/art directors, production artists, photo/video, web developers, and print production, to form a productive creative partnership
  • Solving problems per the Creative Brief and the assignment, but also responding to underlying needs not voiced by clients
  • Bringing a mature and always-curious perspective to understanding target audiences and what makes them “click”
  • Producing digitally-rendered creative concepts to communicate ideas to the client
  • Presenting creative concepts and rationale grounded in strategy, with the confidence to explain and support their thinking to the account team and directly to clients
  • Staying current on trends and innovative ideas that fit the opportunities we have to influence client fundraising results
  • Ensuring deadlines and budgets are met effectively
  • Reporting to the Creative Director, with mentorship from the Sr. Designer.

Job Qualifications


  • 3-6 years’ experience in art direction or design within an agency or in-house creative department
  • A great portfolio with a keen eye for conceptual thinking, visual details, and accuracy
  • Prior fundraising and direct marketing experience a huge plus
  • Strong technical skills in Adobe CS appropriate to their level of experience; fluent in today’s technologies, terms, and media as they apply to design
  • Superior eye for strategy, layout, graphic design, and typography. Videography experience a plus.
  • Digital marketing chops in both email, social media, and web experiences
  • Ability to both lead by influence and example, great listener, good communicator, team player
  • Great sense of humor, eager to learn, and patient
  • This is very specifically a mid-level art direction position. If you are a Senior Art Director/Designer or fancy yourself beyond a “Senior” title, then this is not the right job for you.

Desired but not required:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in design or art direction with a focus in digital media
  • A knowledge of non-profit work
  • A big stomach – we love to eat
