The Senior Designer for Campaign Communications will create content that inspires major and principal gift donors including alumni, North Texans and supporters across the country to invest in SMU.
Reporting to the Creative Director, the Senior Designer brings the SMU campaign brand to life in ways that reinforce the University’s key messages and will collaborate with the extended marketing team and the fundraising team to support SMU's long-term vision.
Candidate must provide samples (or a way to access samples) of past work and a well-written cover letter for full consideration.
Serve as the lead designer for SMU’s fundraising campaign, creating content that inspires and strengthens engagement with current and prospective SMU major and principal gift donors. Responsible for leading the effort to apply the campaign branding to all relevant donor content to reinforce and communicate consistent messaging.
Team with writers, videographers, the campaign project manager and other colleagues to produce highly visual and compelling digital and print development/campaign related materials such as proposals to donors, donor event invitations, visual impact stories, video testimonials, quarterly campaign newsletter, vibrant website graphics, social media, etc.
This position will also build a digital library of resources for the fundraising team that are easy to use and enables them to be self-sufficient in the fundraising of leadership and major gifts (examples: templated proposals for merit- and need-based scholarships, endowed positions, etc.)
Obtain estimates, build budgets and team with the project manager on production schedules. Coordinate production, art direct photography and work with writers and other Marketing & Communications colleagues. Communicate job status to team members. Oversee production and attend press checks as needed. Support team as needed on projects outside the primary initiative.
Approve vendor invoices, submit disks to be archived, check in samples for files, close jobs, and other duties as needed to support the Creative Marketing team.
Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Visual Communications or related design field.
A minimum of five years’ design experience throughout multiple forms of media is required.
Design experience for high-value fundraising and/or luxury marketing efforts preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate must possess strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to successfully work with a wide range of stakeholders. Must also demonstrate evidence of success in collaborating and working with writers, fundraisers, videographers, social media, fellow designers and others in the creation of content. Strong listening skills and the ability to receive feedback well is required.
Professional presentation and negotiation skills, strength in highly creative solutions based on marketing problems and the ability to transfer concepts into a visually appealing package with compelling copy are essential. Candidate must be a strategic thinker who can create high concept designs for digital and print applications. Strong written communication skills with ability to produce error-free written communications are essential.
Candidate must possess strong organizational and planning skills, including the ability to prioritize projects and workflow, as well the ability to work with project managers in the delivery of projects. Must also demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment and work proactively in a team environment. The ability to work in team situations effectively, cooperatively, and courteously, with sensitivity to others and a commitment to resolve conflict appropriately is essential.
Candidate must have strong problems solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems. Must also demonstrate resourcefulness in finding, presenting and implementing appropriate solutions to problems. Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities is essential.
Candidate must have a strong knowledge of offset printing and experience with press checks.
