SENIOR ART DIRECTOR

What the job is:

The Senior Art Director’s primary role is to produce graphic solutions to address packaging assignments and any other visual communications needs. The Senior Art Director has the proven ability to translate marketing strategies and project parameters into appealing packaging design and comprehensive concepts that communicate the desired message to the target audience. This individual draws on key design principles and practices to compose with illustrative, photographic, and typographic materials in a usable, appropriate manner. The Senior Art Director shares the rationale for their writing decisions with team members and clients in an engaging way.

Essential Job Functions:

• Produce visual communications in a timely manner primarily for packaging design but also for branding, promotions, ads, in-store signage, basic websites, informational materials, and more
• Contribute to large assigned projects by bringing big ideas and distinctive creative solutions
• Work within given brand design standards, but also the ability to create them if needed
• Organize and direct photoshoots
• Conceptual thinking; play an active role in brainstorming and ideation
• Lead large projects when the Creative Director is unavailable
• Develop expertise in the field of store brand packaging design and be the go-to person on the subject
• Study the store brand and retail industry, gather samples, and stay up to date on emerging trends and ideas
• Provide guidance, suggestions, and insights to co-workers, and critique less experienced designers’ work
• Guide production artists to build master designs and/or line extensions 

Education, Experience, and Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in design art or a related field, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of experience
• Agency experience preferred
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign) 
• 3D and Digital skills are a major plus, but not necessary
• Knowledge of layout principles, aesthetic design concepts, hierarchy, typography, and color theory
• Understanding of industry trends and strategies
• Strong communicator
• Responsive and efficient, ability to organize and manage multiple projects
• Strong eye for details
• Resilient in the face of ever-changing client demands
• A team player and a pleasure to work with
