About Me

Genaro Solis Rivero is an award-winning designer and educator. He teaches Graphic Design in the Department of Art and Art History at Baylor University, following five successful years as a Lecturer at Texas State University. Genaro began his design career as a graphic designer at Equilibrio in Mexico City in 2002 and co-founded Contrasto Group, a visual design studio specializing in editorial design and corporate marketing materials. After Genaro received his M.F.A. degree from Texas State University in 2012, he opened Genaro Design, a boutique branding agency in San Antonio, Texas. The spring of 2020 brought an excellent opportunity for a joint venture with Legacy79; since Genaro has been part of the L79 Family and is a proud 79er!

Genaro strongly believes in giving back to the community; hence, he has utilized his expertise in graphic design to support several cause-based non-profit organizations throughout the years. His philanthropic spirit began with his involvement with the Shriners Hospitals for Children in the late ’90s. Furthermore, national and international industry-leading organizations and publications, such as The American Advertising Federation, Art Directors Club of Houston, Creative Summit, Dallas Society of Visual Communications, Good50x70, Graphis Press, and LogoLounge, have recognized Genaro’s graphic design.

Teaching what I love and loving what I teach is how Genaro describes his new passion for design education. He is a “foodie” who enjoys a good glass of wine, and espresso is a must. Also, Genaro loves to travel and learn about different cultures; one of his favorite cities is Toledo in Spain. He is a Dallas Cowboys fan, although his passion for horses influenced his inclination toward the Denver Broncos as a child. Genaro is a member of the Community Bible Church in San Antonio and loves contemporary Christian music. His wife, two boys, and Red—an Australian Labradoodle—keep him busy and alive when he is not teaching, reading, cooking, or designing.
