Job Description

The Photographer provides advanced technical photographic skills for studio, event, portrait, and marketing photography, including maintenance and management of equipment and as archival files of work products.  Writes photo captions and tags when necessary.  Aids in the development of multimedia and dynamic media projects that will support and increase the multimedia efforts needed to fulfill the mission of the Department of Marketing and Communications as well as the university.

Job Responsibilities

  • Shoots, edits and manipulates photographs of high quality for university marketing collateral, publications, reports and for public relations and news stories.
  • Edits photographs submitted by others retaining the substance of their content while enhancing its quality.
  • Sets up and operates cameras, lighting units and other equipment for field operations.
  • Keeps up to date and maintains a working knowledge of current software such as Lightroom, Photoshop and other photo-related software.
  • Hires, manages and trains student workers for photo and video operations, scheduling and distributing photography assignments and editing as appropriate.
  • Maintains photography archives and retrieves photos upon request for university and department use.
  • Maintains equipment and assists in ordering new equipment for the production studio.
  • Assists with multimedia production.
  • Experiments with new photo styles to keep up with modern visual trends and expectations.
  • Utilizes Teamwork, a cloud-based project management system, to track a project’s status and communication.
  • Cultivates good relationships with campus partners and maintains customer satisfaction.


This job description shall include but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.

Job Qualifications


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in photography or related field.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One (1) year related experience and a solid portfolio of work that demonstrating knowledge of camera operation, editing and lighting.
  • Ability to: Ability to use varied types of cameras, camera equipment and photo software. Ability to work after hours and weekends (weekend and nighttime ball games, special awards luncheons and dinners and other on and off-campus events).  Ability to travel.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: None
  • Physical Requirements: None
  • Other Requirements: Portfolio required



  • Photography experience in a university setting. Experience planning, shooting and editing videos.
