Job Description

The Content Developer is a champion for creating and sharing content that draws people into engaging with the vision of HP Pres in the following ways:

Vision: The Content Developer reinforces the vision of HP Pres and its partners by creating and sharing content that supports these values. 

Story: The Content Developer is responsible for identifying stories and sharing them with the congregation, its partners, and the world through social media. This means gathering content (photos, writing stories, helping with video scripts) proactively. Training and encouraging other staff to find and tell stories is also part of the role. The goal of every story we tell is to show the world how Christ is transforming lives, in big and small ways, through HP Pres and its partners.

Strategy: The Content Developer, in coordination with the Creative Director and Art Director, is responsible for developing and maintaining both long-term and short-term plans for story sharing in print, on our website, and through our social media channels. This person acts as a strategist and looks for new opportunities and ideas to test. This person is responsible for the tactics and coordinating with other ministry workers for creating content for storytelling. A marketing mindset is needed for this role.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the vision for the church is shown through social media by creating strategic plans in conjunction with the Creative Director.
  • Works towards high quality and cohesive imagery across social media platforms, in conjunction with the Art Director.
  • Collaborates with the Filmmaker and Production Team to create original pieces for social media, assisting with strategy, brainstorming, and scriptwriting.
  • Works alongside the ministries of the church to identify ways to share stories and create strategic promotion plans.
  • Equip HP Pres staff with tools and resources to independently manage smaller social media accounts as needed.
  • Stays aware of the needs of HP Pres by meeting with various departments and participating in cross-departmental planning meetings.
  • Maintains a social media calendar, proactively scheduling online engagement.
  • Responds to questions and comments sent to HP Pres over social media channels, during off-hours when necessary.
  • Identifies relevant content from other sources to share on our social media channels.
  • Identifies trends in social media and creates plans for experimenting with relevant or creative ideas on our own channels.
  • Manages church-wide, ministry-specific, and partner organization social media accounts.
  • Tracks social media metrics and analytics, summarizes lessons learned for leadership staff and changes strategy based on results.
  • Sets goals and measures them for promotion, engagement, and conversion strategies.
  • Seeks to proactively capture or create content and share stories. This can involve grabbing a camera and going offsite to take photos, as well as collaborating with team members and freelancers to gather content.

Job Qualifications

Education, Experience, Skill, Ability Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Desire and ability to work creatively in a team setting.
  • Thought leadership on digital best practices.
  • Strategic thinking, independent, data-driven, attention to detail, and task-oriented.
  • The ability to think “big picture” about how messaging impacts the congregation.
  • A passion for telling stories.
  • A passion to reach people for Christ and helping mobilize people in their faith through creative and strategic content.
  • Highly organized, able to create and maintain a social media calendar, and manage multiple projects at once to create content for the social media calendar.
  • Writing skills. Able to create compelling content in as few words as possible.
  • Familiarity with social media tools, such as HootSuite, Schedugram, etc.
  • Understands the StoryBrand model, or willing to quickly learn it.
